FAA Designates Naverus to Design and Implement RNP Procedures: Naverus Augments FAA Work To Speed Deployment
[Apr-19-2007]
Seattle, WA (April 9, 2007): The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has authorized Naverus (www.naverus.com) to be an RNP Procedure Developer. Per the authorization, the company will provide airlines, other aircraft operators and airports with design of RNP procedures, integration, quality assurance, flight validation and maintenance services. This authorization, combined with the FAA’s recent qualification of Naverus as RNP operations Approval Consultants, recognizes the company’s ability to provide all the products and services needed for implementation of an RNP program. Naverus is the first organization identified by the FAA for these roles.
RNP (Required Navigation Performance) represents the latest development in aircraft navigation. It combines the advanced capabilities of modern avionics and GPS to ensure that aircraft stay on narrow, preprogrammed paths. RNP uses less airspace which makes it an ideal tool for optimizing air traffic. Paths tailored to reduce fuel burn save airlines millions of dollars and benefit the environment with lower emissions and noise.
“While the FAA will continue providing these types of services, operators now have the option of using Naverus to accelerate their realization of the significant safety, efficiency and environmental benefits available from RNP” explained Steve Fulton, Naverus co-founder and Chief Technology Officer.
Naverus has developed RNP programs and secured operational approval for several airlines including WestJet, Qantas and Air China. The FAA’s authorization of Naverus as a provider of RNP products and services is similar to designations the company has received from regulators in other countries.
