FAA Designates Naverus as RNP Approval Consultants: RNP Approval Made Easier
[Mar-20-2007]
Seattle, WA (March 20, 2007): The United States Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has designated Naverus (www.naverus.com) as a RNP Approval Consultant. Naverus is the first and currently only organization recognized by the FAA for this role. By creating a list of qualified consultants, the FAA has made it easier for airlines to obtain assistance with the multifaceted process of gaining approval for RNP operations.
A growing number of airlines have discovered the fuel savings and safety benefits of RNP and have approached the FAA requesting approval to take advantage of it. To date, only two airlines have been approved to use RNP procedures in the U.S. Naverus is eager to help current and future applicants with their submissions.
“Airlines looking for the benefits of RNP are often frustrated by the implementation requirements. Having helped a number of airlines outside of the U.S. through this process, Naverus has a unique perspective and significant experience from which applicants can benefit.” said Hal Andersen, VP Flight Operations and co-founder of Naverus.
Naverus has successfully assisted WestJet, Qantas and Air China secure RNP approvals from Transport Canada, Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority, and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, respectively. Naverus also has approval to design flight procedures in those countries.
About RNP
RNP (Required Navigation Performance) is a new way to operate aircraft utilizing modern flight computers, GPS navigation and innovative procedures. Airlines using RNP fly predetermined paths loaded into their flight computers. These paths can be designed to reduce flight distances and lower thrust settings resulting in millions of dollars in fuel savings for an airline. They also bring noise and emissions reductions benefiting airport neighbors and the environment. The accuracy and all-weather capability of RNP bring enormous flight safety enhancements as well.
About Naverus
Naverus is the worldwide RNP leader. The company provides a full range of RNP products and services including assisting regulatory agencies with the establishment of standards, aircraft manufacturers with equipment compliance verification and operators with the roll out and maintenance of network-wide RNP programs. Naverus RNP procedures incorporate fuel-saving efficiencies and other benefits making them popular with airlines. As a result, Naverus designs represent the overwhelming majority of procedures in use today. Customers include Airbus, Air China, Air New Zealand, Boeing, jetBlue, Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin Blue and WestJet. The Seattle company, which is privately-held, was founded in 2003.
