When pilots see RNP in operation for the first time, they usually say the same thing: “WOW!”
Instantly, they recognize RNP’s ability to solve the problems of operating aircraft. They see how its lateral and vertical guidance can safely guide them through the dark nights and bad weather; over and around obstacles, terrain and other aircraft. They realize that selecting the RNP non-normal procedure in the FMC replaces all the complicated navigation steps that add to crew workload when dealing with an engine failure (especially handy when flying over challenging terrain in poor visibility).
When pilots realize how powerful and easy-to-use RNP is, they usually say: “How can I get it on my aircraft?”
