| WestJet is the largest and most successful low-cost carrier in Canadian history, serving 33 cities in Canada, USA, Mexico and the Caribbean. WestJet has grown to 53 aircraft and over 4,500 employees. Naverus and its first customer, WestJet, worked together to deploy RNP procedures through the airline’s entire route structure, including more than 70 runway ends at 21 airports, in just 18 months. These early procedures enabled WestJet to access airports that had previously been challenged by terrain and poor weather as well as ensured operational reliability by providing a back-up instrument approach procedure in case there was an ILS outage. As WestJet and Naverus learned from the airline’s operational experience, it was realized that RNP could offer more than just access and redundancy. WestJet is now reaping a full range of benefits from RNP including safety, financial, and environmental. Insurance underwriters were positively impressed with WestJet’s RNP program and premiums were lowered. Reductions in emissions have yielded Canadian tax credits. WestJet and Naverus continue to work together to refine and optimize existing RNP procedures adding track-mile saving shortcuts where possible.
