| KENT, WA (November 17): Naverus has been named a 2006 recipient of Aviation Week Magazine's Technology Breakthrough Award. Naverus was one of only four recipients of the publication's annual award highlighting innovation in aerospace and defense technology. The award was presented at Aviation Week's A&D Programs Conference in Phoenix, AZ. The Aviation Week award for Operational Breakthrough in the Commercial category recognizes Naverus' pioneering work in performance-based navigation (RNP RNAV), which combines the advanced capabilities of modern aircraft and avionics with sensor systems such as GPS to provide safer, more efficient navigation for operators worldwide. Hal Andersen, Vice President of Flight Operations and co-founder of Naverus, accepted the award on behalf of the company. "RNP changes the way we fly," noted Andersen. "Not just in how we navigate, but how we train our pilots, how we plan our routes - and ultimately, it has an impact on how well we serve our passengers. It unlocks tremendous economic benefit for operators." The latest award marks the second major award to Naverus by Aviation Week in 2006, in April, Naverus Chief Technical Officer and co-founder Steve Fulton was awarded the industry's prestigious Laureate Award to the company’s work in performance-based navigation, in September. Naverus was featured as the cover story in Aviation Week for its work with Air China to deploy RNP in Tibet. |
